DESCRIPTION:Shane joined Directors of Retention and Provosts at The National Symposium on Student Retention in Mobile\, AL\, to discuss trends and findings in the area of improving student retention. Speakers included two of the most well-known in the area of student retention\, Dr. Hossler and Dr. Vincent Tinto. Following one of the sessions\, Shane had the opportunity to spend about 10 minutes with Dr. Tinto. He reiterated the importance of advisors\, support services and student engagement to improving retention.    Shane presented a workshop on how to leverage technology to empower your advisors and improve student success. One of our clients also mentioned her use of GradesFirst in a workshop she conducted on student retention. Many people expressed their excitement about their potential with GradesFirst.    At the luncheon\, Shane gave away two exciting\, fun prizes. DESCRIPTION:Shane Hudman presented a session on the GradesFirst Early Alert\, Retention\, & Advising System at the Alabama Community College Association Annual Conference in Montgomery. During the presentation\, a participant commented that email communication is no longer the most effective way to communicate with students. When the participant sent an email to the student body of 7\,000\, over 3\,000 messages bounced back. This emphasizes the importance of alternative methods of communication. That's why GradesFirst uses text messaging and secure\, Facebook integration in addition to email.
